Zona Laura Biggs Allen

January 23, 1937 — December 22, 2015

Zona Allen, 78, passed away at Houston Medical Center on Tuesday, December 22, 2015. She was born in Breckenridge, Texas in January of 1937 to the late Terrance and Gladys Madison Biggs. She grew up in Valdosta, Georgia where she later graduated from Clyattville High School. Zona attended Tift College where she received her Bachelor's Degree in Biology and following her time there, she further continued her education at Mercer University obtaining her Master's Degree in Biology. She began her professional career teaching high school Chemistry and Physics at R.E. Lee Institute where she was employed for several years. She later worked side by side with her husband, working in his Family Practice, L.L. Allen, M.D., in Thomaston. Always adventurous, she had a lifelong love of travel, and was an avid racketball player. She was full of laughter and her spirit brought smiles and joy to everyone she encountered, most especially her family. Her children felt unconditionally loved and cared for by their beloved mother. Zona enjoyed gardening and later in life, she attended The University of Georgia where she was certified as a Master Gardener. Zona joined the Green Thumb Garden Club in Thomaston and gained the title of Advanced Lifetime Master Gardener with the Perry Garden Club. Additionally, she was a member of First Baptist Church of Thomaston where she was active in the choir and enjoyed going on mission trips with other members.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Katherine Elizabeth Allen.

Her memory will forever be treasured by her loving husband of 63 years, Lawrence Lanier Allen, Jr, M.D. of Kathleen; children, Lawrence L. Allen III (Barbara) of Jonesboro; Joy Allen Drummond (Randy) of Atlanta; Michael Allen (Glenda) of Thomaston; Laura Allen Hudson (Guy) of Anchorage, Alaska; grandchildren, Heather Gilbert, Holly Starr, John Allen, M.D., and Kathy Allen Proctor, M.D.; as well as two great grandchildren, Logan Starr and Madison Claire Allen.

Zona's family will hold a private celebration of her life at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests memorial donations be given in memory of Zona Laura Biggs Allen to the charity of the donor's choice.
