Dr. Andrew Jackson Grisham, a man whose life reflected determination, service, and quiet achievement, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, April 27, 2026 at the age of 98.
He was born to Dendon Selar Grisham Sr. and Rebecca Hughes Grisham in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee. From an early age, it was clear he was destined for great things. Voted “Most Likely to Succeed” in high school, he carried that promise forward with humility and purpose throughout his life. Shortly after graduation, he was drafted into the United States Army near the close of World War II, answering the call to serve his country during a pivotal moment in history.
Following his military service, he began working as a postal carrier, a role that reflected his strong work ethic and commitment to his community. Never one to stop striving, he pursued higher education and attended dental school, at The University of Tennessee, School of Dentistry, graduating in 1957, setting the foundation for a long and meaningful career.
He moved to Warner Robins, Georgia, where he established his private dental practice, he became a trusted and respected member of the community. Through his work, he cared for countless patients, building relationships that extended far beyond the dental chair.
Outside of his profession, he found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He took pride in his yard, winning yard of the year and he enjoyed many days on the golf course at Houston Lake Country Club. In the spring, he always looked forward to receiving his Masters tickets. A devoted fan of the University of Georgia football team, he rarely missed an opportunity to cheer on the Bulldogs.
Dr. Andrew Jackson Grisham will be remembered for his dedication, perseverance, and the steady way he built a life of purpose and service. His legacy lives on in the many lives he touched and the example he set.
In addition to his parents, Andrew was preceded in death by his wife of 78 years, Maudie Jane Boynton Grisham and his son-in-law, David Patrick Barber, Sr along with 5 sisters and 5 brothers.
His memory will forever be treasured by; daughters, Evelyn Barber, Andrea Rountree (Lee), and Sally Ziegler; grandchildren, Lori Carver (Jonathan), Heather Wilkes (Mike), Patrick Barber (Erin), Dr. Justin Rountree (Cristina), Andy Stricklen (Kat), Adam Stricklen, and Sarah Mathis (Andrew); and great-grandchildren, Matthew, Gracie, Ellie, Max, Mary Elizabeth, Grayson, Savanna, Olan, Chanlee, and Evelyn, along with many other loving family members and friends who will cherish his memory and carry on his legacy. Though our hearts are broken, we find comfort in knowing that he is at peace and reunited with Meme as they are watching over us.
He will be in our hearts forever and his memory will be cherished always.
A special thanks to Andrew’s caregiver, Ellen Carter, for her loving care over the last few years.
