Anthony Ray Shurley

March 25, 1954 — September 18, 2025

Kathleen

Anthony Ray Shurley, 71, of Vienna, Georgia, entered into eternal rest on September 18, 2025. Born on March 25, 1954, he was the beloved son of the late Silas and Melba Flanders Shurley.

Ray lived a life marked by love, resilience, and devotion. He proudly served his country in the United States Army, and later retired from civil service at Robins Air Force Base, where he worked as an equipment specialist.

A proud Alabama football fan, he never missed a chance to cheer for his Crimson Tide. He was also known for his deep appreciation of life’s simple pleasures—whether enjoying a strong cup of coffee, casting a line while fishing, or tending to the flowers in his garden.

A man of remarkable determination, Ray celebrated 22 years of sobriety through Alcoholics Anonymous, where he found purpose and community while helping others on their own journeys. His family fondly remembers him as the “designated kitchen knife sharpener” and a man whose sharp wit and generous heart left an impression on everyone he met.

Ray’s greatest joy came from time spent with family. No matter how many hours the day offered, it was never quite enough for him when it came to his loved ones. His legacy will live on in the memories of laughter shared, stories told, and love freely given.

His memory will forever be treasured by his loving wife Robin Lynn Shurley; children, John Silas Shurley and Timothy Shane Shurley; granddaughter, Keleigh Michelle Shurley (Trevor Hurst); brothers, Carl Bivins Shurley, Wyndol Melvin Shurley, and Andy George Shurley; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Monday, September 22, 2025 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home. Afterward, Ray will be laid to rest in Lupo Cemetery in Vienna, Georgia.
