Arthur Wacaster, 73, passed away on Sunday, March 12, 2017.
Art was born on January 13, 1944 in New Port Richey, Florida. With great pride and honor, he served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War where he received the Purple Heart and the Silver Star medals among other military decorations. Art retired from Talisman, LLC where he was working as the Vice President/Energy Consultant. Prior to working for Talisman, Art was a speechwriter for then Lieutenant Governor Zell Miller, the Director of Senate Research for the Georgia State Senate, and the director of policy and technology for Southern States Energy Board. He was also an Adjunct Professor for several local colleges and universities. A master storyteller, Art's trademark was his keen wit and tremendous sense of humor. He was an avid reader and history buff who possessed a profound appreciation for all genres of music. He found great pleasure in boating and also enjoyed tinkering with antique cars.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Adolphus Jordan and Helen V. Cummings Wacaster, sister, Julia Ilene Rittmeyer, and brothers, Jordan Michael Wacaster and George Edward Wacaster.
His memory will forever be treasured by his loving wife of 23 years, Jean Jones Wacaster of Warner Robins; daughters, Dolores Wacaster-Gervase (Scott) of Canton; Tracy Ann Wacaster-Der (Geno) of Melbourne, Florida; grandchildren, Ashley, Clairese, and Jacob; two great-grandchildren; and sister, Lila Dolphelen Shafer (Bill) of Caldwell, West Virginia.
Visitation will be Wednesday, March 15, 2017, from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Christ in Macon. Memorial services will immediately follow at 2:00 p.m. in the First Baptist Church of Christ in Macon. Art will be laid to rest in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial contributions be given in memory of Arthur Wacaster to the American Cancer Society, 804 Cherry Street, Suite A, Macon, GA 31201 or to the American Red Cross, P.O. Box 4002018, Des Moines, IA 50340.
