He was an active member of the North Carolina Water Operators Association (NCWOA) for 35 years.

In addition to his professional career, Scott was an entrepreneur, operating his own business, Pisces Aquarium, where he maintained aquariums for local businesses. In addition, he volunteered as a Cub Scout Master and leading his scouts on Pow Wows, jamborees, and camping trips, creating memories that lasted a lifetime.
