Barbara Jean Holt

Barbara Jean Holt, wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, teacher, physical therapist assistant, and friend, walked into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on the evening of Thursday, January 10, 2019 with her husband by her bedside. She was 70 years old.

Barbara was born in Atlanta, Georgia on September 28, 1948 to Betty Jean McGinnis and the late LeRoy S. McGinnis. As a child, her family relocated to Savannah, Georgia. Barbara graduated from Savannah High School as head Majorette in 1966. She attended the University of Georgia where Barbara met the love of her life, Lake Benjamin Holt III. They married in 1967. Barbara was also a Georgette in the UGA Dixie Red Coat Band. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree of Education in 1973.

Along with her husband, who was serving in the United States Air Force, Barbara spent almost 30 years living in numerous locations both in the United States and abroad. Barbara worked as a teacher for two years and then obtained her Physical Therapist Assistant Degree from Long Beach State University and spent the rest of her career working in physical therapy. A woman of faith, she was always active in churches no matter where they lived. Barbara was proud to serve as President of the Protestant Women of The AF Chapel for all of Europe. She was a very caring and selfless person who constantly reached out to help people and was mature in her Christian faith and values. In 2004, Barbara and her husband settled in Warner Robins, Georgia. She worked as a physical therapist assistant at Houston Medical Center and other various rehabilitation centers. Barbara was a devoted member of Bonaire First Baptist Church.

In addition to her father, she was also preceded in death by her granddaughters, Emma G. and Abigail B. Mossman.

Barbara’s memory will forever be treasured by her devoted husband of 51 years, Lake B. Holt III of Warner Robins; mother Betty J. McGinnis; children, Ellen M. Mossman and Russell D. Holt; grandchildren, Blake C., Camden B., and Addison F. Mossman; and brother, Roy McGinnis.

Visitation will be Tuesday, January 15, 2019 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, January 16, 2019 at Bonaire First Baptist Church. Following the service, Mrs. Holt will be laid to rest in Andersonville National Cemetery.
