Barbara M. Parkerson, 88, departed this life on Monday, May 5, 2014 while sleeping peacefully.
Born on January 13, 1926 to the late Milo and Sybil Bridges Moore of Macon and Unadilla, Barbara Allen Moore was a native of Dooly County. As a young lady, Barbara attended Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville. Construction on the nearby Wellston Air Depot at Robins Field (later to become Robins Air Force Base) brought hiring and good jobs. School would have to wait when Barbara moved to Wellston to work.
Barbara was widowed twice. While working in Wellston, she met her first husband, USAAF (later USAF) Lt. Heckle Brown. "Brownie" was killed when his TF-51D plane crashed near Nellis AFB, Nevada on October 12, 1950. The young widow, Barbara, went unaccompanied to Nevada to retrieve her husband's remains. Some years later, Barbara Brown would court and marry Charles Lewis Parkerson, a U.S. Navy Veteran from Dodge County. They lived happily together for thirty-two years and reared two sons. When the boys got older, Barbara spent her time helping Charles run the family business and volunteering at local nursing homes where her mother and stepfather lived. When Charles fell ill, Barbara cared for him at home until his death in 1990.
After Charles' death, Barbara lived with her little dog, Rusty, and quietly donated her time and talent at various local charities and church functions. Barbara leaves behind to cherish her memory, two sons: Allen Parkerson of Warner Robins and Michael Parkerson of Lizella.
A graveside service was held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 7, 2014 in Magnolia Park Mausoleum with entombment immediately following.
In lieu of flowers, Barbara would have asked you to please consider a donation to your favorite charity.
