Starts at 2:00 pm (Eastern time)
In Loving Memory of Barbara Ann Newman Sorrow, a beloved wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, and great-grandmother, was born on July 15, 1939, in Sheldon, Iowa, to the late Bill and Betty Newman of Cut Bank, Montana. She passed away peacefully at home with family surrounding her in love and comfort on October 21, 2026.
She was the devoted wife of the late Bobby Lee “Bob” Sorrow of Athens, Georgia, and together they built a family that remained a treasured part of her life. She was retired from Embeco Insurance as an underwriter.
Growing up in Montana, Barbara enjoyed an adventurous life and was involved in rodeos, where she participated in barrel racing. Those early years reflected her connection to the Western way of life and became a special part of her life story. She had a deep love for music and dancing of all genres, especially the timeless rock ’n’ roll sounds of Jerry Lee Lewis and Elvis Presley. Their music brought her joy, and she loved to dance whenever she had the chance.
Barbara found joy in the simple things that brought her family together. She enjoyed sewing, preparing delicious home-cooked meals for her loved ones, and baking sweet treats during the holiday seasons for everyone to enjoy. These special traditions were a reflection of her loving heart and the care she put into making holidays and family gatherings memorable. The warmth of her kitchen, the sweetness of her holiday baking, and the love stitched into all she did will remain treasured memories for her family.
She is survived by her loving children, Tommy Sorrow (Cheryl) and Mardee Lee. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren, Elizabeth Lee Brown (Jonathan), Taylor Sorrow (Taylor), William Lee (Lauren), and Cyara Sorrow, as well as her four beloved great-grandchildren, Owen Lee, Hudson Brown, Hadley Brown, and Truett Lee, her brother, Jim Newman (Barbara).
Barbara was also preceded in death by her dear son-in-law, Tommy Lee. She will be lovingly remembered alongside those who went before her and whose lives were forever intertwined with hers.
A celebration of Barbara’s life will be held on Sunday, October 25, 2:00 p.m. at Bonaire Church, 221 Church Street, Bonaire, Ga 31005. Family and friends are invited to gather to remember her life, share stories, and celebrate the love she gave so freely.
Though she will be deeply missed, Barbara’s memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved her. Her love, her family traditions, and the memories she created will continue to live on through her family for generations to come.
In honor of Barbara’s many beloved pets, please donate to the Houston County Humane Society in lieu of flowers.
McCullough Funeral Home and Crematory has the privilege of being entrusted with these arrangements.
