Bertha Barnes

Bertha Barnes, a beloved member of the community, passed away on the morning of November 30, 2023, at the age of 76.

Bertha was born on August 8, 1947, to the late Walter B. and Lila Mae Johnson Oates, in Roberta, Georgia. She was the youngest of nine siblings. Bertha dedicated a significant portion of her life to her work at Barber Farms.

In her spare time, she enjoyed fishing and gardening. Beyond these outdoor pursuits, Bertha also loved cooking. She had a passion for the simple joys of life, and would solve puzzles, color pictures, and read books to relax.

In addition to her parents and siblings, Bertha was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Barnes, son-in-law, Dwight Meeks.

Her memory will forever be treasured by her children, daughter, Lettie Mae Meeks, Freddie Hampton Jr. (Doretha), and Richard Hampton, all of Fort Valley, as well as Andy Hampton of Columbus; grandchildren, Victoria Meeks, Marcus Meeks, Alexis Hampton, Pamela Hampton, Freddie Hampton III, Caleb Hampton, and Jayla Hampton; great-grandchild, Marquez West; and siblings, Hazel Dodson and Johnny Oates (Vera).

At the family’s request, all services held will be private.
