Betty J. Gibby, age 86, passed away peacefully in her home Monday, October 5, 2026, surrounded by her family.
Betty was born July 7, 1940, in LaGrange, Georgia to the late Hazel and Jack English. Her love for God and her family was her top priorities.
Betty fell in love with her beloved husband and soulmate of 71 years, the late CMSgt. Cecil P. Gibby, USAF (Ret.), and they were married on March 8, 1955, in Thomaston, Georgia. Together, they raised three children, Deborah A. Cook (CMSgt. Kenneth M. Cook, USAF (Ret.), Charles A. Gibby (Teresa), and Kenneth P. Gibby (Regina). Not only did Betty proudly carry the title of the world’s best mom, she was also known as the world’s greatest Mamo.
She had a passion for God‘s creation, especially in the fall when she and Cecil would go to the mountains to see the leaves changing. When she was not doing that, she loved going shopping and to lunch with her daughter Deborah and granddaughter SaraJean every Saturday.
Betty was proceeded in death by her parents, Hazel and Jack English; her brother, Bobby Borders; her sister, Penny Borders; her dear husband CMSgt. Cecil P Gibby, USAF (Ret.); her daughter, Deborah A. Cook; and her first grandson, Timothy A Cook.
She is survived by her children, Charles A. Gibby (Teresa) and Kenneth P. Gibby (Regina); son-in-law, CMSgt. Kenneth M. Cook, USAF (Ret.); and seven grandchildren, SaraJean Jones (Rev. Michael Jones), Charles Gibby (Brandi), Bobby Gibby (Megan), Dana Rowen (Kyle), Ginger Gibby, and Phillip Gibby (Brittany). She also leaves behind 10 great-grandchildren, and seven great-great grandchildren.
A visitation with Betty’s family and friends will be on Friday, October 9, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. The funeral service honoring Betty’s life will immediately follow at 11:00 in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home. Afterwards, Betty will be laid to rest with her beloved husband CMSgt. Cecil P. Gibby, USAF (Ret.) in the Parkway Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
