Raised in Memphis, Tennessee, Betty graduated from Humes High School in 1957. During her high school years, Betty became best friends with Iris, George's sister, and worked part-time as a bookkeeper. Betty and George were married in Hernando, Mississippi, on February 10, 1960, and remained married for 53 years until George's passing.

As a supportive military wife, Betty lived in several cities stateside and abroad, including Shaw Air Force Base in South Carolina, Ramey Air Force Base in Puerto Rico, Memphis, Tennessee, Steinbach, Germany and in Warner Robins, Georgia. In 1976, George retired from the United States Air Force and made Warner Robins their permanent location.

Betty cherished her family and was a doting grandmother. She also had a beloved K-9 companion, “Scooter.” Betty will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Her memory will forever be treasured by her children, George M. Poore, Jr. and Cheryl A. Dilks (Michael); grandchildren, Michael “Tyler” Dilks and Dylan M. Dilks; and siblings, Malcolm S. “Skippy” Yelvington, Jr., Anthony “Tony” Yelvington, Philip Yelvington, and Patricia “Patsy” Kueider.
