Brenda Joyce Shugart, age 81, was reunited in heaven with the love of her life, her beloved husband of more than 60 years, Jackie Linton Shugart, on the evening of Wednesday, October 21, 2026.
Brenda was born on July 16, 1945, in Henderson, Georgia, to the late Walter Morris and Eva Pearl Arnold Thames. She retired from Civil Service at Robins Air Force Base, where she worked in Procurement.
A true Southern lady, Brenda was known for her sweet spirit, wonderful sense of humor, and caring heart. She loved people, was always willing to give of herself, and had a special gift for listening. She never had an unkind word to say about anyone and touched the lives of those around her with her kindness and compassion.
Brenda was a devoted wife and homemaker who cherished being at home with her husband. The two were inseparable and shared a beautiful life together. She enjoyed gathering for lunch with her former coworkers, spending time in her yard, watching and shopping at QVC, and playing Bingo. She dearly loved her animals and took great joy in spoiling her grandchildren. Brenda was meticulous about keeping her home neat and took pride in maintaining it alongside her equally tidy husband. She also made it a point to stay in touch with her siblings, calling them regularly to check in and let them know she cared.
A longtime member of First Baptist Church Perry, Brenda faithfully served as the secretary for her Sunday school class. Her gentle nature, generous heart, and unwavering love for her family and friends will be remembered by all who knew her.
In addition to her beloved husband and parents, Brenda was preceded in death by ten siblings.
Those left to cherish her precious memory include her loving son, Rob Shugart (Brandi) of Warner Robins; her cherished grandchildren, Hudson and Hayes, both of Warner Robins; her brother, Ted Thames (Frances) of Henderson; her sister-in-law, Linda Thames of Henderson; her niece, Debbie Gamber of Centerville; and several other nieces and nephews..
Brenda will be remembered as a loving wife, devoted mother and grandmother, faithful friend, and truly kind soul. Her love for her family, her sweet Southern charm, and the warmth she brought into the lives of others will remain in the hearts of those who loved her. Though she will be deeply missed, the beautiful memories she leaves behind will be treasured forever.
Visitation with Brenda’s friends will be on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church Perry. A funeral service will immediately follow at the church, at 1:00 p.m., with Pastor Bobby Nix officiating. Brenda will be laid to rest in Henderson Baptist Church Cemetery following the service.
McCullough Funeral Home and Crematory has the privilege of being entrusted with these arrangements.
