Carrol David Folse, 84, passed away on Wednesday, June 24, 2026.
Carrol was born in Napoleonville, Louisiana on January 15, 1942, to the late Nelson and Eva Folse. He grew up in Labadieville and was active in sports at Assumption High School, where he was an All-State running back on the 1961 High School football team. Carrol lettered in football, baseball, and track. Carrol enlisted in the Air Force and served in England, where he met his future wife, Eva.
Following the completion of his enlistment, Carrol and Eva returned to Louisiana, where he attended Nicholls State University under the GI Bill.
After completing his bachelor’s degree, Carrol was commissioned a second lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force and attended Navigator Training at Mather Air Force Base in California.
Upon completion of his Navigator Training in 1968, Carrol was assigned to the 19th Bomb Wing flying as a Navigator and Electronic Warfare Office on B52G bombers at Robins Air Force Base in Georgia.
While assigned at the 19th Bomb Wing, Carrol completed three combat tours in Southeast Asia, where he flew over 120 combat missions in the B-52D and B52G bomber. He flew four missions during the Linebacker II Offensive in December 1972, which was the final assault on Hanoi to bring the Vietnam War to a close. Carrol was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross (DFC) for bravery during one particular mission, when he and his crew completed their objective despite facing a heavy surface to air missile attack with a severely impaired defensive system to his bomber.
Upon his discharge from active duty, Carrol joined the Air Force Ready Reserves where he flew as a Navigator and Electronic Warfare Office in the AC-130A gunship. He remained in the Ready Reserves until his retirement in 1990 as a Major in the United States Air Force.
Carrol entered Civil Service at the Electronic Warfare Management Directorate at Robins Air Force Base in April 1982 as a Computer Scientist and Test Engineer with the F-4G Wild Weasel engineering team. He served as a Test Director for flight testing of numerous software block cycles developed by engineers at Robins for the F-4G Wild Weasel. After the retirement of the F-4G Wild Weasel system, Carrol continued to serve as the system lead or Software Project Manager on other Electronic Warfare systems until his retirement in 2012.
In addition to his parents, Carrol was preceded by his brother, Nelson, and his sisters, Judy and Carol (Teesie).
He is survived by his wife, Eva; his four children, Tracy (Arlene), Diane (Rob), David, and Michael (Julie); his six grandchildren, Adam (Haley), Lauren, Mary Clare, Madeline, Jedediah, and Matthew; and his four great grandchildren, Olivia, Parker, Grayson, and Christian.
Visitation will be Thursday, July 2, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with a funeral mass following at 2:00 p.m. Carrol will be laid to rest in Georgia National Cemetery, in Canton, Georgia, on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at 1:00 p.m.
