Commander Thomas “Tim” William Lewis, II, USNR (Ret.), passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at the age of 85.

Born on March 23, 1940, in Munhall, Pennsylvania, Tim was the son of the late Thomas William Lewis, Sr. and Selma “Betty” Elizabeth Oster Lewis. He graduated from Munhall High School and went on to earn a degree in Ceramics Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology—an achievement that marked the beginning of a long and distinguished professional journey.

Tim proudly served his country, beginning on active duty in the United States Navy as a Lead Instructor and Communications Officer. He continued his service in the Navy Reserve for over two decades, retiring with the rank of Commander.

Alongside his military service, Tim dedicated 35 years to Harbison-Walker Industries, where he contributed significantly to engineering research and development. He was instrumental in developing and securing several patents, particularly in the field of blast furnace and refractory technology.

A man of great talent and many interests, Tim was an accomplished woodworker, once known for crafting pool tables by hand. He was also a Master Bridge player and an avid golfer, playing three times a week in retirement and even achieving two holes-in-one. More than just a game, golf was a source of deep and lasting friendships that brought him great joy throughout his later years. He also enjoyed racquetball, pickleball, bowling, gardening, and reading.

Yet, above all, Tim cherished his family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who treasured every moment spent with loved ones. He especially enjoyed traveling and cruising the seas with his beloved wife, Dot. Known for his integrity, strong work ethic, and loyalty, Tim was a ready friend to many.

In addition to his parents, Tim was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 62 years, Dorothy “Dot” Ann Crow Lewis.

He leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion through his daughters, Deneen Trask (Bruce) and Wendy Dietrich (Donald); grandchildren, Samantha Cox (Kevin), Jillian Booth (Harrison), Lauren Dietrich, Katelynn Trask, and Thomas Dietrich; great-grandchildren, James and Michael Cox; and his sister, Diane Carol West (James).

Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 10, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. A funeral service celebrating Tim’s life will immediately follow at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home. He will be laid to rest at a later date.
