Charlene Caye Leverette, age 53, entered into eternal rest on June 3, 2026.
Born on July 18, 1972, in Warner Robins, Georgia, Charlene was the beloved daughter of the late Charlie and Terri Wright Leverette. From the very beginning of her life, she faced extraordinary challenges with courage and determination. Born with a rare form of eye cancer, Charlene never allowed her visual impairment to define her. She became the first legally blind student to complete the Houston County School System, a remarkable achievement that reflected her strength, perseverance, and unwavering spirit.
Charlene graduated from Warner Robins High School in 1990 and continued her education at Macon State College, where she earned an associate degree. Throughout her life, she demonstrated that determination and faith could overcome any obstacle.
A devoted Christian, Charlene was a faithful member of Green Acres Baptist Church and later First Baptist Church of Centerville. She was an active member of the Shining Light Sunday School Class and was passionate about sharing her faith with others. She sang in the church choir, helped with Awana, and was always eager to witness for the Lord through both her words and her actions.
Despite battling numerous illnesses throughout her life, Charlene remained steadfastly positive. Her sweet spirit, kind heart, and joyful outlook touched everyone who knew her. She was fiercely independent and never allowed her disability to limit her ambitions or diminish her zest for life. Those who knew Charlene admired her determination, resilience, and ability to find blessings even in difficult circumstances.
Charlene had a special love for children and delighted in spending time with them whenever she could. She also shared a unique and treasured bond with her beloved seeing-eye dog, Sandy, whom she absolutely adored. Sandy was not only her companion but also a faithful friend who walked beside her through many of life's journeys.
Charlene will be remembered for her unwavering faith, her compassionate heart, her strength in adversity, and the inspiration she provided to so many. Though she faced challenges that would have discouraged others, she met each day with grace, courage, and a smile.
In addition to her parents, Charlene was preceded in death by her brother, Ronnie Norman.
Her memory will forever be treasured by her brother, Robert Leverette (Cheryl) of Warner Robins, Georgia; and nephew, Nicholas Loudermilk, of Dallas, Texas.
Visitation will be on Monday, June 8, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, at First Baptist Church of Centerville. Afterward, Charlene will be laid to rest in Magnolia Park Cemetery.
