Charles "Billy" Smith, Sr., 79, entered into rest on Monday, August 3, 2009.
Mr. Smith was born on October 1, 1929, in West Columbia, South Carolina, and had lived in Warner Robins since 1966. With pride and honor, he served his country in the United States Army, participating in the Korean Conflict. Subsequent to his military career, he worked for thirty-five years as a Traffic Manager at Robins Air Force Base. After retiring from civil service, he worked at Christopher Smith Funeral Home for fourteen years and with McCullough Funeral Home. A life long Demon Fan, he was a member of the Warner Robins Touchdown Club and a volunteer for the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association (NARFE) for seventeen years. Trinity United Methodist Church was his church home, where he was a member of the Asbury Sunday School Class. His first wife, Beverly W. Smith, and parents, Percy L. Smith and Myrtle L. Westbury Smith, preceded him in death.
His memory will forever be treasured by his loving wife of thirty years, Betty Lucille Skari Smith; daughters, Terri S. (Harry) Orsburn, Chattanooga, Tennessee, and Ann S. (Larry) Harman, Ringgold; sons, Charles B. "Chuck" (Darlene) Smith, Jr., Jacksonville, Florida, and Michael L (Robin) Smith, Kathleen; step-son, Andrew (Shelia) Oliver, Warner Robins; step-daughter, Kimberly Anne (Lee) Prewett, Bakersfield, California; brother, James Smith, Seattle, Washington; sisters, Peggy Bader, Highlands, California, and Patricia Smith, Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina; eleven grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Wednesday, August 5, 2009, from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 6, 2009, at Trinity United Methodist Church, Pastor Bill Bagwell and Reverend Marty McLeod officiating. Interment will follow in Magnolia Park Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Polymyositis Foundation at Arthritis Foundation, 1330 West Peachtree Street, Atlanta Georgia 30309, or to Trinity United Methodist Church Building Fund, 129 S. Houston Road, Warner Robins Georgia 31088.
