Charles Edward Brooks

March 1, 1935 — December 1, 2025

Roberta

Charles Edward Brooks, 90, of Roberta, Georgia, passed peacefully from this life, leaving behind a legacy of hard work, faith, and devotion to family. Born on March 1, 1935, in Sharpsburg to the late Jerry Franklin and Jesse Vineyard Brooks, Charles grew up with a deep appreciation for the land, community, and simple joys that would define his life. He was married to his loving wife, Geraldine, for 69 years, a bond that stood as a testament to enduring love, partnership, and devotion.

Charles proudly served in the National Guard, carrying with him a strong sense of duty and steadfastness throughout his years. He was known for his love of the outdoors—especially fishing—and for the great pleasure he found in traveling. Alaska held a special place in his heart, and he fondly shared stories from his time there, always with a gleam in his eye.

A man of unwavering faith, Charles was ordained as a deacon at Thomaston Road Baptist Church in April of 1971 and served faithfully for many years. He was deeply committed to his church and especially loved teaching teens, guiding them with both kindness and wisdom. Those who knew him fondly recall that he was gentle in spirit but carried a steady firmness—someone who offered strength wrapped in kindness.

Charles was affectionately known by many as “Gas-man” and “Peanut Man,” nicknames earned through years of friendship, service, and community connection. At home, he could often be found clearing land with his beloved bulldozer or tending to his cows, which brought him great joy. He had a “busy bee” spirit, always piddling with a project, fixing something, or simply making the world around him a little better than he found it.

One of his greatest pleasures was spending time with his grandchildren, driving them around on the tractor and creating memories they will carry for a lifetime.

Charles lived a life marked by love, purpose, and a steady reliability that grounded all who knew him. He will be remembered for his faith, his work ethic, his humor, and the quiet but enduring warmth he shared with family, friends, and the community he served so well.

In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by his brothers, Kenneth Brooks and Bobby Brooks.

His memory will forever be treasured by his beloved wife, Geraldine Post Brooks; children, Eddie Brooks (Angela) of Lizella, GA, and Tony Brooks (Cyndy) of Roberta, GA; grandchildren, Heather Brooks of Vermont, Josh Brooks (Crystal) of Lizella, Ashley Brooks of Carrollton, and Meghan Godfrey of Roberta; great-grandchildren, Hayden Brooks, Hunter Brooks, and Emily Burnham; and sister, Betty Jean East, of Macon, GA.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, December 5, 2025, at Midway Baptist Church in Macon. Afterward, Charles will be laid to rest privately.
