Charles R. Anthens, born on October 29, 1931, in Ainsworth, Nebraska, to the late Charles E. and Myrtie Heaton Anthens, passed away on Wednesday, August 23, 2023. His life was marked by dedicated service to his country, a brilliant career in electrical engineering, and a deep love for travel, sports, and animals.


As a young man, he proudly served in the United States Air Force. After his military service, he continued his dedication by contributing to his nation as a civilian. Charles pursued a career as an Electrical Engineer and became an integral part of the Space Program at NASA in Cape Canaveral. His exceptional skills and dedication led him to be part of the prestigious Surveyor Project, a groundbreaking mission that reached the moon, marking a historic achievement for mankind. Charles worked until he was 80 years old.


In his spare time, he loved to travel, especially to go back to his beloved home state, Nebraska, where he enjoyed watching football games. In addition to his love for sports and travel, Charles had a tender heart for animals. His favorite companion, "Casey," a cherished cat, held a special place in his heart. He was also a member of the Nebraska Alumni Association. Charles's compassionate nature extended to the animal kingdom, showcasing his kindness and empathy.


In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Ann Steinbach Anthens; four sisters; and his beloved cat, “Casey.”


Charles is survived by his children, Lori L. Martin, and John R. Anthens; grandchildren, Cari Williams (Ken), Cory Martin (Charity), Chris Martin; great-grandchildren, Michael Herniak (Deejay), Kaelin Brown (Rebekah), Logan Williams, and Lily Williams; one very special great-great-grandchild on the way; niece, Cherry Gocken; and family friend, Lea Paden.
