Clara Mae Johnson entered into eternal rest on April 1, 2026. She was born on January 4, 1954, in Vienna, Georgia, to the late Henry and Willie Sue West.

Clara was a woman whose life was defined by love, kindness, and joy. She was a truly caring and devoted person, known for her warm heart, bright smile, and the laughter she so freely shared with others. Clara had a fun-loving spirit and a natural gift for making those around her feel special.

She especially cherished the time she spent with her children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Clara loved to joke, laugh, and create memories with her family, and her love for them was evident in everything she did. She was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need, never hesitating to give of herself.

Clara shared a special and unbreakable bond with her sisters, Jessie Davis and Gloria Lane, who were not only family but also lifelong friends. She held a deep and loving connection with her nieces Kywannya Dykes, Shauna Johnson, Tara West, and Destiny Haslem, who were more than nieces to her—they were her riding partners and like daughters in her heart. She also shared a unique and cherished bond with her nephew Terrence Dykes, as the two connected over their love of sports and their playful connection.

Clara found joy in simple pleasures. She loved fishing, working on puzzles to keep her mind sharp, and watching her favorite game shows. She also had a passion for storytelling, sharing her memories and wisdom with those around her. A devoted fan of the Atlanta Braves, she rarely missed a chance to cheer on her team. Clara also took great pride in growing flowers and plants, nurturing them with the same care she showed to everyone in her life. She enjoyed “junk talking,” a connection that brought her much joy.

Clara was an exceptional cook, known by many as the best you could ever come across. Her homemade biscuits and cakes were made with love and will be remembered fondly by all who had the pleasure of enjoying them.

Clara’s legacy is one of love, laughter, and compassion. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved her.

In addition to her parents, Clara was preceded in death by her sister, Otha West.

Her memory will forever be treasured by her children, Fleshia Samples (Leonard), Paolo West (Shonda), Tangee Bradley (Brandon), Lakeisha Johnson, and Bertha Johnson; grandchildren, Sekyra Jackson, Nigel Jackson, ShyKeem West, Jermanye West, Paris West, Londyn West, Samari West, Saquoya Dinkins, Sean Dinkins, Togie Dinkins, Dai'Kamron Johnson, Cordell Lester, and Jai'Kambreon Lester; great-granddaughter, Koa' Dinkins; siblings, Jessie Davis, Georgia Anderson, Trudell Allen, Willie Sue West, Pearlie Mae West, Loris West, Gloria Lane, Mark West, and Lavonia West; and ex-husband, Alton Johnson.

Visitation will be held on Friday, April 10, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at McCullough Funeral Home. A graveside funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., at New Hope Church, 523 Tippettville Road, Pineview, GA 31071.

Rest in peace, Mama, my favorite one,

I’ll always love me some you forever, not done.

To the world you were strong, but to me you were grace,

Perfection lived gently in your hands and your face.

From the way you cooked and rolled your dough so sweet,

To the rhythm of love in the clothes you’d neatly keep.

Your perfume each morning, a scent I still chase,

Even the light of your cigarette held its own grace.

Your skin, your smile, your soft, quiet lips,

Your cakes made with love, your firm, steady grip.

Every small detail, every big sacrifice,

You carried our world and you paid every price.

You took all the hits that we never could see,

But you stood tall and fearless—just teaching me to be.

A hard-working woman, unshaken, so true,

Mama, my strength will forever be you.

I’m your twin, your reflection, your living piece,

And loving you now is my forever release.

You’re the reason I came back, the reason I stayed,

In your final years, every memory we made.

I took you to places, your favorites, your past,

Sat with your stories, made moments that last.

You saw your people, you felt all that love,

Now you’re resting in peace, high above.

God guide me now, ‘cause I don’t understand,

How to walk this world without holding your hand.

But I felt you last, I remember that touch,

And Mama, that moment… it still means so much.

You were perfect to me, down to your last breath,

Even in goodbye, you outshined death.

I missed you before, and I miss you right now,

I’ll carry your love—I just don’t know how.

Mama, my Perfect Lady, my heart, my home,

Even without you, I’m never alone.

Because you live in me, in all that I do…

And forever, Mama… I’ll love me some you. Tangee
