CMSgt. Cecil P. Gibby, USAF (Ret.), age 89, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, April 24, 2026, with his family by his side.
Cecil was born on July 7, 1936, in Thomaston, Georgia, to the late Maybelle and Arthur Gibby. He had a love for God’s Word, with his favorite scripture being, “Acts 2:38.”
Cecil also loved his family endlessly. He met his beloved wife and soulmate of 71 years, Betty Jean Boarders, and they were married on March 8, 1955, in Thomaston, Georgia. Together they raised three children, Deborah A. Cook (CMSgt. Kenneth M. Cook, USAF (Ret.), Kenneth P. Gibby (Regina), and Charles A. Gibby (Teresa). Not only did Cecil proudly carry the title of “World’s Best Dad,” he was also known as the “World’s Greatest Papo.”
With a passion for the outdoors, he enjoyed hunting, though his heart was always the happiest on the lake fishing.
Cecil was preceded in death by his parents, Maybelle and Arthur Gibby; his brothers, Dean and Clinton Gibby; his daughter, Deborah Cook; and his grandson, Timothy Cook.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Betty Jean Gibby; children, Kenneth P. Gibby (Regina), and Charles A. Gibby (Teresa); son-in-law, CMSgt. Kenneth M. Cook, USAF (Ret.); seven grandchildren, Tim Cook, Sara Jones (Michael), Charles Gibby (Brandy), Bobby Gibby (Megan), Dana Rowan (Kyle), Ginger Gibby, and Phillip Gibby (Brittany). He also leaves behind 10 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren, with another on the way; as well as his two sisters, Peggy Christine Gibby Sapp, and Katherine G. Tucker.
A visitation with Cecil’s family and friends will be held on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. A funeral service honoring Cecil’s life will immediately follow at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home. Afterward, CMSgt. Cecil P. Gibby, USAF (Ret.) will be laid to rest in the Parkway Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
