James A. Parker, 84, entered into rest on Friday, August 23, 2013.
James was born on April 25, 1929 in Clinchfield, Georgia. With pride and honor, he served his country in the United States Air Force for thirty years. James served during the Vietnam Era and World War II and retired with the rank of Chief Master Sergeant in 1976. He was a follower of Christ and called Christ United Methodist his church home. James treasured his grandchildren, loved fishing, and will always be remembered as a very generous person. His wife, Aretha Atkinson Parker; parents, Jessie and Ida Hamsley Parker; sister, Martha Fletcher; son-in-law, James M. Smith; and half-brother, Mac Youngblood, preceded him in death.
His memory will forever be cherished by his beloved children, Connie Smith of Byron, Donna Overmire (Steve) of Florida, and James R. Parker (Rebecca) of Perry; grandchildren, Kristy Clark of Cochran, Adam Montgomery Parker and Olivia Leigh Parker, both of Perry; siblings, Edna Youmans (Fred) of Eatonton and Robert W. Parker (Pat) of Warner Robins; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 25, 2013 at Christ United Methodist Church with interment following in Magnolia Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. The family will accept flowers or donations may be given to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38148 or to the American Cancer Society, 804 Cherry Street, Suite A, Macon, GA 31201.
