On Palm Sunday, 24 March 2024, CMSgt John J. Bennett, Jr., USAF (Ret.), 77 took his final breath.

Born in Brooklyn, New York, he was the second child to the late John and Katherine Bennett.

Graduated from Baldwin High School, New York in 1965 and joined the US Air Force in January 1966.

He notably served 30 years in the Munitions Operations career field serving 16 years overseas (France, England, South Korea (2x), Germany (2x), Turkey) with his last 18 years of service assigned to six different Higher Headquarters Munitions Staff positions. While assigned to NATO, he was selected as 1984 Senior NCO of the year for Turkey.

He proudly earned the rank of CMSgt and wore the Master Aircraft Maintenance and Munitions badge. His decorations include: Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with two oak leaf clusters, Air Force Commendation Medal with two oak leaf clusters, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal.

Following his illustrious military career, he continued his dedication to country by serving almost 10 years as a Financial Manager at Robins AFB, Georgia. During this time, he received the American Society of Military Comptrollers, Middle Georgia Chapter 2003-2004 Budgeting Award for Unit under Major Command, Special Operations Forces, Personnel Recovery Civilian of the Quarter for 2010, and Outstanding Performer during AFMC UCI 2011.

As a military history buff, he enjoyed taking trips to historical locations throughout the US and Europe.

He is survived by his sister, Gerry Murringer, and brother, Kevin Bennett.

He will forever be missed by his devoted wife of nearly 50 years, Sun Bennett, two daughters, Susan Bennett (USAF retired) of Kailua, Hawaii and Mary and her husband LtCol (USAF) Marvin Arida of Beavercreek, Ohio, his five grandchildren, Ayana, Alex, Kai, Kaydin, and Liliana, as well as extended family members and friends who looked up to him as a role model and will reminisce the wonderful time spent with him.
