A faithful servant of the Lord, his family and his country. A beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, CMSgt. Victor Arlen Brown, Sr., USAF (Ret.) entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, August 5, 2025. He was 93 years old.
Born on June 13, 1932, in Berlin, New Hampshire, to the late George Warren Brown and Charlotte Cole Brown, Victor was the eldest of his siblings. He spent his early years exploring the White Mountains of Gilead and Corinna, Maine, eventually settling with his family in Portland, Maine. A proud 1950 graduate of Deering High School, he made his mark as a talented athlete, playing on both the golf and baseball teams.
Victor’s greatest calling came through his service to his country. Over a remarkable 30-year career in the United States Air Force, he rose to the rank of Chief Master Sergeant and earned numerous commendations for his leadership and dedication, including the Meritorious Service Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, and the Philippine Presidential Unit Citation, among many others.
While Victor earned many honors throughout his life, what he valued most wasn’t the medals or recognition—it was his faith, his family, and the meaningful relationships he built along the way. He was a devoted husband to the late Margaret “Margot” Elizabeth Brown, his beloved partner and best friend. Together, they created a life full of joy, laughter, and adventure. Victor had an infectious zest for life, and simply being in his presence brought joy to others. He loved playing golf, chopping wood, and was a proud master of building the perfect fire—a skill he passed on to his family with pride. Whether he was tending the grill, caring for the yard, or hitting the base gym five days a week, Victor stayed active and engaged in every aspect of life. He embraced the role of “Chief cook and bottle washer” with enthusiasm and heart.
In retirement, he and Margot made multiple trips each year to Gilead, Maine where they enjoyed spending time in nature, bird watching, and time with his brother and sister. It was their “home away from home.”
Victor's legacy is that of a man who had deep faith, love of family and a lifelong servant of God who met each day with gratitude. He never complained, always found a reason to smile, and was a bright light in the lives of all who knew him.
In addition to his parents, Victor was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret "Margot" Elizabeth Brown.
His memory will forever be treasured by his children, Geoffrey Brown (Julie) of Canton, Mississippi; Christopher Brown (Tracy Anne) of Cullman, Alabama; Elizabeth “Betsy” Brown Taylor (Zane) of Destin, Florida; David Brown of Macon, Georgia; Anthony “Tony” Brown (Adriana) of Cumming, Georgia; Ellen Brown Oblen (Michael) of Milton, Georgia; Victor “Buddy” Brown, Jr. (Rosalind) of Los Angeles, California; and Colin Brown of Warner Robins, Georgia.
Grandchildren, Katelynn Brown Pinkston (Dee), Hilary Brown Winters (Chase), Madeleine Brown Fetherson (William), Grace Brown Darden (Owen), Caroline Brown Prak (Martijn), Rachel Brown, Ian Oblen, Jack Oblen, Joshua Oblen, Aidan Browne, Justin Brown (Chandler), Jordan Brown, Keagan Brown and Sam Brown.
