Cornelia Marie Hurd, known lovingly as Connie, passed peacefully into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior on April 11, 2026, in Warner Robins, Georgia. She was 92 years old, born on December 10, 1933, in Pinckneyville, Illinois, where her adventurous spirit and generous heart first took root. She was the daughter of the late Wilford and Nora Wolfe Bird.
She married the love of her life, Calvin L. Hurd, and together they shared a beautiful 55-year marriage filled with devotion, laughter and love. Soon after they married, he was stationed to Fountainebleau, France. Connie set out on a solo transatlantic adventure to join him, a bold move that spoke volumes about the determination and courage she would carry with her for the rest of her life.
Connie was, above all else, a devoted mother. She poured herself into the lives of her four children and the communities they called home. Whether she was leading Brownies, Girl Scouts or Cub Scouts, volunteering as a Kindergarten teacher assistant, or serving as an active PTA member, Connie showed up with her whole heart. She spearheaded a bazaar for the Officers’ Wives Club that raised record-setting funds for local charities, a testament to both her organizational talent and her deep belief in giving back. She also volunteered faithfully at local nursing homes, bringing her sunny energy to those who needed it most.
Connie had a gift for making people feel at home. She could talk to anyone and loved nothing more than a good chitchat over a hand of Gin Rummy or Pinochle, where she earned a well-deserved reputation as a card shark. She was a skilled seamstress, patient and creative gardener, and an accomplished sugar cookie baker whose treats were legendary. She collected Hummels and Lladro with a careful eye, appreciated fine china and linens, loved trying new recipes, and never missed a good Bingo game. Her competitive garage sale outings with her best friend, Lavada, were the stuff of local legend.
She is survived by her daughters, Debra Keen of Conyers, Donna Patrick of Warner Robins and Diana D’Arminio (Bruce) of Wichita Falls, TX and son, Gary L. Hurd of Warner Robins, all of whom were blessed by her unwavering love and willingness to always lean a hand and listen. Her memory will be cherished by granddaughter, April Jacobs; great-grandchildren, Kaitlin, Chase, Hailey, and Avery; and great-great-granddaughter, Kallie.
At the family's request, Cornelia will be laid to rest beside Calvin during a private graveside funeral service in Andersonville National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests memorial donations be given in memory of Cornelia Marie Hurd to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105
Connie’s deep and abiding faith in God guided every step of her life. She was a devoted Bible School volunteer and a woman who lived her beliefs through service and kindness. Her life was a reflection of the scripture she held dear: “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all the ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths.” Proverbs 3:5-6.
