Cynthia “Cindy” McDonald Gordon of Warner Robins, Georgia, passed away on Saturday, October 10, 2026, at the age of 80. She was born as Cynthia Susan Wright on November 14, 1945, to Edgar Wright, Jr. and Sue Moseley Wright. The second of four children, she grew up in Decatur, Georgia, and graduated from Southwest Dekalb High School in 1963.

Upon graduation, she attended Augusta College to earn her Bachelor’s Degree in Biology. It was there that she met her future husband Jim McDonald. They married in Augusta shortly after college and soon welcomed daughter Susan and son Bryan. As a military family, they lived in many places, including Nebraska, Nevada, South Carolina, and Texas. Cindy especially loved to talk about the years they lived in Aviano, Italy, where she learned to ski in the Alps.

Cindy was a life-long educator who was passionate about her job and her students. After her family settled in Warner Robins, Georgia, she returned to school to receive her Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education from Mercer University. She was a beloved and dedicated teacher to hundreds of 4th and 5th grade students at Miller Elementary School and Bonaire Elementary School, where she was once proudly named Teacher of the Year.

Cindy loved to socialize and give back to her community. Some of her favorite activities involved her tight-knit group of friends, the “Steel Magnolias.” She enjoyed participating in book clubs with her friends, was an involved member of the Master Gardeners of Central Georgia, and served as an officer of the local Military Officers Wives Association.

Cindy was a lover of all animals, especially the many beloved dogs she had over the years. She met her second husband, Art Gordon, while they were walking their dogs in their shared neighborhood. Cindy and Art married in 2004 and together welcomed seven grandchildren, who were the joy of Cindy’s life. She loved nothing more than taking them on nature walks, attending their birthday parties and sports events, and taking them on field trips to museums and farms.

Cindy is survived by her husband of 21 years, Arthur Gordon; her daughter Susan Naddra (Mike), son Bryan McDonald (Alicia), stepdaughters Heather Middleton (Andy) and Melissa Bruck; and seven grandchildren: Claire McDonald, Connor Naddra, Nate Naddra, Tyler Middleton, Kaitlyn Middleton, Cameron Bruck, and Chloe Bruck. She is also survived by her brother Steve Wright (Leslie), sister-in-law Caro Smith (Paul) and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Edgar and Sue Wright, sister Nancy Wright, brother Edgar Wright III, and husband James K. McDonald.

A visitation with Cindy’s family and friends will be held on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, at 1:00 PM at McCullough Funeral Home. The funeral service honoring Cindy’s life will immediately follow at 2:00 PM in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home. Cindy will be laid to rest in a private burial on Thursday, October 15, 2026, at Westover Memorial Park in Augusta, Georgia.
