David Cecil Bynum, 64, passed away at his residence on Wednesday, December 27, 2023. Born to the late TSgt. Timothy "T" Bynum Sr. and Ethel Mae Rountree Bynum. David leaves behind a legacy of academic achievement, professional success, community involvement, and exceptional children.
David's journey began in Warner Robins, where he attended Pearl Stephens Elementary and graduated from Warner Robins High School in 1977. Eager to pursue his passion for science and engineering, he furthered his education at Tuskegee Institute, earning both a Bachelor's Degree in Physics and a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Driven by a relentless pursuit of knowledge, David continued his academic journey at the Georgia Institute of Technology, where he earned his Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering. He went on to achieve a second Master's Degree in Business Administration at Ball State University, showcasing his commitment to both technical and managerial expertise.
Throughout his career, David made significant contributions to the field of engineering. He held positions at IBM, Research Triangle Park in Durham, North Carolina, and Delco Electronics/Dephi Automotive Systems in Indiana. His dedication to his work and innovative mindset left a lasting impact on the organizations he served.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, David was a proud member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. This brotherhood was a testament to his commitment to community, leadership, and service.
In addition to his parents, David was preceded death were his brothers, Timothy Bynum, Jr. and Charles Kenneth Bynum.
Those left to treasure David’s memory are his children: Patrick David Bynum and Davida Marysa Bynum; stepdaughter, Azzleeta Patrice Wright; the mother of his children, Patrice A. Greenwood of Georgia; his siblings, Bevelyn Bynum Johnson of New York, Cassandra Rowena Bynum White, Bessie Beth Bynum Bryant of Oklahoma, and Sibyl Angela Bynum Williams of Georgia; uncle, Charles Rountree; and sister-in-law, Mary Ann Jackson Bynum of Georgia.
Visitation will be Sunday, December 31, 2023, from 1:30 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home. Afterward, David Cecil Bynum will be laid to rest privately.
