David Daniel Long, III, 76, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 8, 2026, after an extended illness.
David was born on April 14, 1950, at Emory University Hospital in Decatur, Georgia, weaned on Coca-Cola, and grew up with an Old Hickory House barbeque sandwich in hand. He was predeceased by his parents, David Daniel Long, Jr., of Atlanta and Miriam Jean Haller, originally of Garden City, Long Island, New York.
He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Deborah Meeks Long, and two wonderful sons, Daniel Sumner Long and Andrew Lewis Long. He is also survived by his sister, Donna Frankiewicz (Ron), his beloved dog Winston, and his granddogs Peyton and Ferguson.
After finishing high school in Atlanta, David graduated in 1973 from Mercer University in Macon with a degree in Literature, a major in Business Administration, a minor in Mathematics, and a piddle in Philosophy. David received an MBA in Finance from Georgia State University in 1979.
David worked for more than 30 years in Trust Tax as well as Trust and Estate Administration, spending 26 years in Knoxville at First Tennessee Bank (now First Horizon Bank).
David retired in 2017 and moved with his wife to Perry, to be with her family. In his retirement, he spent his time with Perry Methodist Church, traveling with his wife to Europe and seeing Broadway shows in New York, and rediscovering his love of classic literature and poetry, film, and music.
Visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, June 15 at Perry Methodist Church, followed immediately by the funeral service at 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests donations be made to the Perry Methodist Church Music Ministry, 1002 Carroll Street, Perry, GA 31069.
