Dennis Kent Durham, 73, entered into rest on Monday, June 16, 2025.
Dennis was born on September 24, 1951, in Savannah, Georgia to the late Ford Durham and Maxine Harper Durham. He spent most of his childhood in Perry and graduated from Perry High School in 1969, where he was an active member of the Future Farmers of America.
Shortly after graduation, Dennis proudly enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, serving as a Combat Infantryman during the Vietnam War, enlisted from 1969 to 1972. Upon returning home, he pursued vocational training and earned his HVAC certification, launching a long and dedicated career at Betz Lab—a company that evolved over the years into Ashland, then Hercules, and is now known as Solenis—where he worked as a supervisor until his retirement.
A devoted and faithful member of First Baptist Church of Centerville, Dennis faithfully served on the church’s security team in the children’s department. He was known for his warm, compassionate spirit, always ready with a caring word, a dose of good-natured sarcasm, and a quick wit that could bring a smile to anyone’s face.
In his free time, Dennis enjoyed the simple pleasures of life—fishing, hunting, and cheering on the Georgia Bulldogs. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, humor, and steadfast service to his country, community, and loved ones.
In addition to his parents, Dennis was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Gaile McCarty Durham and brother, Wayne Durham.
His memory will forever be treasured by his sons, Bradley Kent Durham (Christie Marie) and Scott Durham (Deborah Joy); grandchildren, Tyler Lane Durham, Yasmine Gabrielle Durham, Micah Scott Durham, Anslie Sage Durham, and Leah Joy Durham; sister, Lydia Thompson Richter (Bob) and sister-in-law, Lynn Durham, along with many other loving family members and friends.
Visitation will be Wednesday, June 18, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Centerville, with a funeral service to immediately follow at 11:00 a.m. Afterward, Dennis will be laid to rest in Centerville Cemetery with military honors.
