Devon Adkins, 27, passed away at his residence on Sunday, August 13, 2017.
Born on March 28, 1990 in Macon, Georgia, Devon grew up in both Macon and Monroe County. He graduated in 2008 from Central High School in Macon where he loved playing soccer and was involved in Cross Country and JROTC. Following graduation, Devon joined the United States Coast Guard, proudly serving his country for four years. In the Coast Guard, he served on the Honor Guard and was awarded numerous medals including the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and National Defense Service Medal . Devon had the pleasure of receiving the medals from General Colin Powell himself.
Subsequent to his military career, he attended Macon State College while working as a lifeguard and pool manager at Idle Hour Golf and Country Club and the Highlands in Macon. Devon also worked for the Macon Museum of Arts and Sciences and enjoyed working at El Camino Taqueria and Cantina and the Hummingbird Stage and Taproom. Heritage at Bass United Methodist was his church home.
In his free time, he loved hiking the Appalachian Trail, longboarding and gaming. You could also frequently find him listening to live bands on Coleman Hill, shooting at the gun range, and offshore fishing. Devon’s contagious smile and always friendly disposition will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
His memory will forever be treasured by his loving parents, Tara Adkins of Forsyth and Justin Adkins (Kelley) of Macon; brother, Christian Adkins of Forsyth; stepsiblings, Will Campbell of Milledgeville and Kathryn Campbell of Macon; grandparents, Richard Adkins of Forsyth, Peggy Adkins of Culloden, Terri Yeomans of Macon and Wayne Edge (Robin) of Sandersville; and his devoted pets, Loki and Odin.
