Diane, a devoted mother, grandmother, and longtime public servant, passed away at the age of 93. Born September 3, 1932, in Sacramento, she was the last of five generations of the Gilmore family, known for their historic butcher shop and deep community roots. She is preceded in death by her parents, Gerald R. Gilmore Sr. and Dorothy Theis Truax Gilmore, and her brother Gerald R. Gilmore Jr.
A graduate of Sacramento High School and Sacramento City College, Diane spent nearly 35 years serving the State of California, as well as roles at Aerojet and the Oregon State Government. In the 1980s, she proudly earned her BA in Anthropology from CSUS.
In 1969, Diane made the defining choice of her life when she adopted her daughter, Maggie, beginning a lifelong bond marked by love, humor, and unwavering devotion. She later became a cherished mother-in-law to Robert and grandmother to Riley and Lily.
Diane was a 75-year member of the Eastern Star and the Rainbow Girls, organizations that shaped her youth and remained meaningful throughout her life. Diane loved books, travel, music, good food, and collecting memorable stories from her travels in the US, Europe, and Asia. She volunteered with the CASA, the Crocker Art Museum, St. Michael’s Episcopal Church, and other various organizations, reflecting the generosity that had long defined her family.
She is survived by her daughter Maggie, son-in-law Robert, grandchildren Riley and Lily, her cousins Cynthia, Virginia, and Judy, and many dear friends. Diane will be remembered for her strength, intelligence, and deep love for her family.
