Donald Johns, 78, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 25, 2026.
Donald was born on January 17, 1948, to the late James Monroe and Sallie Ruth Johns in Thomaston, Georgia. He was a proud veteran of US Navy and served his country in Vietnam. Following his retirement from service, Donald was an active member of the VFW and the American Legion.
Donald was known as a living historian. He had a particular interest in the Civil War, participating in Civil War re-enactments and joining the Sons of Confederate Veterans. He was also an elder member of the Cherokee of Georgia.
Donald was a jack of all trades. He spent time as a police officer with the Macon and Warner Robins Police Departments, did security for Capricorn Records, and helped open Mad Wackers Salons as a Master Cosmetologist.
Donald left behind a legacy that inspired his children and grandchildren to serve their country as well. His daughter, Kimberly, is in the Air Force and four of his grandchildren serve in the US Army.
In addition to his parents, Donald was preceded in death by his brother, Johnny Johns.
His memory will forever be treasured by his children, Kimberly Johns-Randles (Daniel), James Johns (Patricia Pneuman), Alexis Shaprio (Brian), and Joshua Johns (Stephanie); his grandchildren, SSgt. Michiel Randles (Kelley), SSgt. Kallan Palma (Javier), Specialist Jeanette Mendoza (Jose), Mazie Cannon (Trey), SSgt. Waylon Starley (Abbie), Shiloh Johns, Donald Johns, Michael Johns, Everlee Johns, and Micah Greer; his great grandchildren, Auguste Mendoza, Rose Mendoza, Samantha Randles, Dalton Randles, Elena Palma, Sophie Cannon, Lillia Cannon, Francis Starley, Arlo Willeby, and Luca Trejo; and his siblings, Sue Rozier and Russell Johns.
The family will hold a visitation and gathering on Thursday, June 4, 2026, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at McCullough Funeral Home, followed by a Graveside Service at 12:00 p.m. at Andersonville National Cemetery.
