Doris L. Shiver, 90, passed away on the morning of Friday, May 15, 2026.
Born on September 19, 1935, in Sumner, Georgia, Doris was the daughter of the late Marvin E. Lawhorne and Ruth Underwood Lawhorne. She was a woman of deep Christian faith whose life was defined by devotion to God, family, and community. Doris was a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Sylvester, Georgia. Two years ago, she and her husband moved to Warner Robins and were members at Central Baptist Church.
Doris graduated from Sumner High School with the Class of 1953. She dedicated many years of service to the Worth County Board of Education, where she worked as a bookkeeper, payroll clerk and faithfully held several other various positions throughout her career.
A gifted and determined woman, Doris taught herself to play the piano and found great joy in music, gardening, and spending time with those she loved most. She especially adored her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild, who were the center of her life and greatest blessings.
In addition to her parents, Doris was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Ken Joyner; and brother, Max Henry Lawhorne.
Doris was a devoted wife for 73 wonderful years to Franklin “Pete” Shiver; a beloved mother to her children, Sharon Shiver Joyner, and Bradford F. Shiver (Melissa); a doting grandmother to her grandchildren, Amanda Shiver (Scott), Brett Shiver (Destani); and great-grandmother to Bailey Ann Shiver. Doris will also be remembered by several nieces, cousins, and other loving family members and friends.
Visitation will be held on Monday, May 18, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Sylvester. A funeral service will immediately follow at 11:00 a.m. Afterward, Doris L. Shiver will be laid to rest in Hillcrest Cemetery in Sylvester.
The family will accept flowers or donations may be given in memory of Doris L. Shiver to First Baptist Church of Sylvester, 207 N Isabella St., Sylvester, GA 31791.
