Dorothy Laverne Averett Reynolds, 94, passed away on Thursday, January 1, 2026.

Visitation will be at McCullough Funeral Home from 3:00 PM until 5:00 PM on Sunday, January 4, 2026. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, January 5, 2026, at First United Methodist Church, 205 North Davis Drive, Warner Robins, Georgia, with Rev. Jon Brown and Rev. Sarah McClelland-Brown officiating. After the service, Laverne will be laid to rest next to her husband Kennon Reynolds at Parkway Memorial Gardens, 720 Carl Vinson Pkwy, Warner Robins, Georgia.

Born on July 11, 1931, in Mauk, Georgia, Laverne was the daughter of the late Albert Eugene Averett and Vera Williams Averett. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years Thomas Kennon Reynolds, her sister Lillian Averett Andrews, her brother Leon R. Averett, her infant brother Prathan Albert Averett, and her brother-in-law Robert Andrews.

Laverne spent her early childhood in Mauk, Georgia, until the family moved to Thomaston, Georgia, around the time she was in fifth grade. As a teenager, Laverne, known as "Bunny" to her family, worked with her paternal grandparents at the C.E. Averett Cafe in Thomaston, Georgia. She graduated from R.E. Lee High School in 1950. Following high school, she attended Business Training Institute in Macon, Georgia, completing her studies in half the allotted time-an early reflection of her dedication and strong work ethic.

She began her professional career in December 1950 as a clerk at Swift & Company Ice Cream Plant in Macon, Georgia. After marrying Kennon in May 1955, she continued her employment until October 1955 when the young couple decided to move to Warner Robins, Georgia. In October 1955, she took a position with Palmer Tire Company where she worked for ten years handling all office matters and assisting in tire and appliance sales. She worked for Houston County Hospital which later became Houston Medical Center from January 1966 until her retirement in October 1996 supporting both the Perry and Warner Robins hospitals. At the hospital, she served in multiple roles including business office manager, social worker, acting controller, PBX operator supervisor, and insurance and credit control officer.

Laverne loved caring for and spending time with her family. She enjoyed helping friends and neighbors, and tending to the "Garden on 96" where the family grew fresh produce. She was a devoted and active member of First United Methodist Church, where she volunteered in many areas including the church nursery for approximately 20 years, the bereavement committee, women's softball, Bible studies, and other ministries.

She is survived by her son Thomas L Reynolds (Arecia) of Bonaire, Georgia; daughter Ellen E. Reynolds of Warner Robins, Georgia; grandchildren James Meadows Jr. (Katie) and Lyndon Meadows (Brittany), both of Cumming, Georgia; nephew Rob Andrews (Mindy) of Monticello, Georgia; brother-in-law Larry Reynolds (Elaine) of Maryland and their children Donna Martin (Mitch), Kevin Reynolds (Zandra), Bob Reynolds, Carol Reynolds, John Reynolds (Jamie), and Mark Reynolds (Holly).

Thank you to our dedicated caregivers Patricia Alford, Tashika Davis, Lenora Lundy, and Angela Dinkins. You honored us with your special and caring talents.
