Doster “Bubba” Lewis Gibbs, a devoted family man, skilled craftsman, and true good ole boy, entered his heavenly home on March 21, 2026, at the age of 81.
Bubba was born on May 5, 1944, in Owensboro, Georgia, to the late Homer L. Gibbs and Grace Stewart Gibbs. In 1954, his family moved to Warner Robins, where he grew up and later graduated from Warner Robins High School.
A hardworking man, Bubba spent 20 years working for Hamlin Heating & Air as a sheet metal mechanic. During that time, he mentored and apprenticed many, including Harry McGregor, who would later go on to own the business. He later began working at Robins Air Force Base, where he dedicated 20 years in the same trade. While working at the base, Bubba also built his own business, S & G Heating and Air, a testament to his determination and entrepreneurial spirit.
Bubba was a man of remarkable skill who could build just about anything with his hands. From blacksmithing to crafting delicate flower arrangements, his talents reflected both his strength and his gentle nature. He built his own home from the ground up, creating not just a place to live, but a lasting testament to his dedication and craftsmanship. Whether in his shop or out on his land, he took pride in fixing and creating, always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Bubba found peace in the outdoors, especially while hunting and fishing, and had a deep love for gardening, even owning and tending his own greenhouse. He also enjoyed grilling and cooking, often bringing family and friends together over a good meal—frequently with a glass of Crown Royal in hand.
Bubba was known for his honesty, kindness, and willingness to help anyone in need. He had a special love for animals and, alongside his wife, raised a variety of them on their land, including emus, turkeys, chickens, horses, geese, dogs, and cats.
A man of strong faith, Bubba loved the Lord and was a faithful member of Rock Springs Congregational Methodist Church in Milner since 2003. He deeply respected and loved his pastors, Dr. Benny Tate and Reverend Craig Walden, and spent much of his time studying the Bible.
He also loved spending time traveling with his family, especially to the beach and the mountains. Bubba and his family made a tradition of planning big family trips, creating countless memories filled with laughter and togetherness. He was proud of his big, happy family and treasured every moment spent with them.
Above all, Bubba was a family man. He cherished every moment spent with his children and grandchildren, especially enjoying watching his grandsons play football. He was their biggest supporter, always present and proud. He also loved football himself and was a devoted Georgia Bulldogs fan.
Bubba will be remembered for his strong work ethic, his generous heart, his unwavering faith, and the deep love he had for his family. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched, the things he built, and the family he cherished so dearly.
In addition to his parents, Bubba was preceded in death by his son, Stephen Head; and siblings, Mary Ellen Ballinger (Guy), Linda Faye Gibbs, Billy Wayne Gibbs, Medra Ann Gorman, and Keith Gibbs.
His memory will forever be treasured by his beloved wife and soul mate, Shelia Cross Gibbs; children, Cindy Newman (Scotty) of Cochran, Mark Gibbs (Cinthia) of Macon, Christopher Gibbs of Cochran, and Lauren Warren (David) of Forsyth; grandchildren, Scotty, Mark, Brittany, Macy, Joseph, Joanna, Jacob, Austin, Jessica, James, Cole, and Thomas; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Kenneth Gibbs (Sandra) and Mike Gibbs (Roxanne); and numerous beloved nieces and nephews. A special tribute is extended to his beloved niece, Haley Adrian, who remained faithfully by his side through the years, offering love, care, and unwavering devotion. He also cherished the dear friendships he shared with Harry and Brenda McGregor and Sue and Earl Downs, whose companionship meant so much to him throughout his life. Bubba will be greatly missed by his fur babies, Shadow and Emme, who brought him much comfort and joy.
Visitation will be Wednesday, March 25, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home, with a funeral service immediately following in the chapel. Afterward, Bubba will be laid to rest in Rock Springs Cemetery.
