Dr. David N. Harvey III, a beloved pediatrician and public health leader, died August 11 at his home in Warner Robins. He served Middle Georgia for more than five decades and will be remembered for a life devoted to caring for children, advancing public health, and serving his community.

Born August 2, 1939, in Greenville, S.C., to David Nesbitt Harvey Jr. and Vernice Williams Harvey, he was raised in Monticello, Georgia where he was a member of the 1956 Georgia Class C State Championship football team and graduated as salutatorian of Monticello High School’s Class of 1957.

He went on to attend Georgia Tech before earning a B.S. in Chemistry from Oglethorpe University. He received his medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia in 1965, where he also completed his pediatric residency. He began his medical career as a staff physician at Gracewood State School and Hospital in Gracewood, Ga.

In 1968, he volunteered with the Australian Surgical Team in Long Xuyen, South Vietnam, an experience he cherished throughout his life.

After returning to Georgia, he joined Pediatric Associates of Warner Robins (later Cornerstone Pediatrics) in 1969. He practiced there until 2007, serving generations of families as a trusted and deeply respected pediatrician.

His commitment to service extended far beyond his medical practice. He was a founding member of the Houston Drug Action Council and the Warner Robins Exchange Club. From 1972 to 2008, he served on the Houston County Board of Health, including 15 years as chairman. During this time, he helped establish a student mentoring program in Houston County schools, chaired the Phoenix Behavioral Community Service Board, and supported the upgrade of Houston Medical Center’s nursery to a Level 2 unit.

He had a passion for Houston County School Athletics, volunteering to perform county wide annual physicals and served as team physician for Northside High School Football teams.

After retiring from pediatrics in 2007, Dave became District Health Director of the North Central Health District in 2008, continuing to serve Middle Georgia until his retirement in 2017.

His contributions were widely recognized. He received the Warner Robins Jaycees Young Man of the Year Award, a Houston County Commissioners Service Award, a Houston County Schools drug-prevention award, and the Jules S. Terry Award from the Georgia Public Health Association. In honor of his impact, two facilities were later named for him: the Houston County Environmental Health Facility and The Child and Adolescent Treatment facility at Phoenix Behavioral Health.

He enjoyed travel, especially his annual summers at his cabin near Bozeman, Montana. He also found joy in gardening, woodworking, reading, and, most of all, time with his family.

He is survived by his children: David Harvey IV of McDonough, Ga.; Dale Harvey of Casper, Wyo.; Don Harvey, DMD, of Alpharetta, Ga.; and Heather Graham, LCSW (Sean) of Kennesaw, Ga. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Brittany Patel (Nirav), Jordon Pardo (Javier), Jake Harvey, Luke Harvey, Morgan Thomas (Michael), Mark Crawford, Beth Harvey, Dallan Harvey, Halli Harvey, Madison Williams, Coleman Graham; and six great-grandchildren.

He is further survived by his sisters, Nancy Piscatella and Joan Vanderslice (Roy), as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his stepson, Ryan Williams.

A memorial service will be held August 29 at 2 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home in Warner Robins.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Labre Indian School, Ashland, Montana at give.stlabre.org.
