In Loving Memory of Dr. Shirley Hood

Dr. Shirley Hood was the daughter of Emanuel and Eula Richards (now deceased). She was a devoted Christian, educator, administrator, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, service, generosity, leadership, and compassion that will continue to live on through the many lives she touched.

Dr. Hood was a woman whose life was firmly rooted in her love for the Lord Jesus Christ. Her faith was not simply something she professed; it was something she lived. Her relationship with the Lord guided the way she loved her family, served others, encouraged those around her, and generously shared the blessings God had entrusted to her. She sought to be a blessing to others and demonstrated through her life the importance of faith, kindness, compassion, and giving.

She was a generous and considerate giver, freely offering her resources, time, and talents whenever she saw an opportunity to help someone else. Whether through a kind word, a listening ear, a helping hand, her professional gifts, or the resources she had available, Dr. Hood gave thoughtfully and often without seeking recognition. Her generosity reflected the love and grace she received from the Lord and was one of the many ways she made a lasting difference in the lives of others.

Throughout her distinguished career as a Teacher and Administrator, Dr. Hood dedicated herself to education and to helping others reach their fullest potential. She understood that education was about far more than books and classrooms—it was about developing people, building confidence, opening doors, and preparing others for their future. As a teacher, administrator, mentor, and leader, she poured her knowledge, time, talents, and wisdom into others.

Dr. Hood shared 45 years of marriage with her beloved husband, Chester Hood. Their life together was built upon love, commitment, family, faith, and enduring companionship. Together, they created a family whose bonds will continue to carry her legacy forward.

She leaves to cherish her memory her son, Earnest Lowe, and her daughter-in-love, Natalie Lowe, of Riverview, Florida; and her daughter, Shirmetra Hood, of Warner Robins, Georgia.

Her greatest earthly joys included her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchild. She leaves seven grandchildren: Kahria Rivera, and her husband, Jesus Rivera; Kaleb Lowe; Katriel Lowe; Jeremiah Hood; Jordan Hood; Antonio Miller; and Aria Hood.

She was also blessed with one great-grandchild, Rafael Earnest Rivera-Lowe, who brought an additional source of joy and love into her life.

She also leaves to cherish her memory stepchildren and step-grandchildren, adopted children and family, beloved sisters and brother, a host of brothers- and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews, extended family, and dear friends.

Dr. Shirley Hood will be remembered not only for her accomplishments as an educator and administrator, but for the woman she was—a woman of faith, a woman of prayer, a woman who loved the Lord, and a woman who understood the importance of giving of herself to others.

She leaves behind lessons that cannot be measured by degrees, titles, or accomplishments. She taught through her words, through her work, through her generosity, and most importantly, through the example of her life. Her influence reached far beyond the classroom and the workplace and into the hearts and lives of the people she encountered.

Her family and loved ones take comfort in knowing that the life she lived was one of purpose and service, and that the faith she held so deeply is now fulfilled in the presence of the Lord she loved.

Though she is no longer with us in person, her legacy remains—in the family she loved, in the students and colleagues she guided, in the people she generously helped, and in every life that was made better because she was there.

Her life was a testimony of faith.

Her love was a blessing.

Her generosity was a gift.

Her service was her legacy.

And her love for the Lord Jesus Christ will forever be remembered.
