Edward O'Mara, 86, entered into eternal life on Thursday, April 08, 2010.
Visitation will be on Monday, April 12, from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 on Tuesday, April 13, in Sacred Heart Catholic Church with interment following in Magnolia Park Cemetery, Monsignor Fred Nijem officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to the donor's charity of choice.
Mr. O'Mara was born in Eau Claire, Wisconsin on August 2, 1923. A resident of Woodstock since 2000, he had lived in Byron and Warner Robins the previous thirteen years and had been an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Warner Robins. He was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather whose life centered on faith and family. A World War II Navy Combat Veteran, he was a plumber, pipefitter and engineering technician. He worked for NASA at Cape Canaveral before and throughout the Apollo program and later retired from the Army Corps of Engineers. He enjoyed boating, camping and creating innovative gadgets. He is predeceased by his wife of 64 years, Helen O'Mara; his son Edward "Buz" O'Mara; his parents, Peter and Elsie O'Mara; his brothers, Marshall and John O'Mara; and his sister, Ione La Blanc.
He will forever live in the hearts of his daughters, Sharon Farmer (Bill), Woodstock, Lee Ann Herbert (William), Austell, and Bonnie O'Mara (Robert), Washington state; seven grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren; sister Janet Figlmiller (Richard) Eau Claire, Wisconsin; daughter-in-law Cindy O'Mara, Warner Robins; several nieces and nephews and a large extended family.
