Floy "Noni" Hester

A centenarian who lived a life full of unconditional love with a generous heart, Floy “Noni” Hester, passed away on Thursday, August 28, 2025. She was 101 years old.

Born and raised in Bath, South Carolina, Noni was the daughter of the late Lewis and Mercie Cushman Green. She graduated in 1941 from Langley-Bath-Clearwater High School as one of just ten members of her entire class.

At the beginning of World War II, Noni joined the workforce at the Augusta Arsenal, contributing to the war effort. It was during these transformative years that she met her beloved husband, Rudy Hester, who was working at a local movie theater. They were married on December 8, 1942, while Rudy served in the United States Coast Guard.

After the war, Noni and Rudy moved to Miami before making Atlanta their long-time residence in 1968. There, Noni embraced her role as a devoted homemaker. She was known for her love of gardening and cooking. Her homemade BBQ sauce, chocolate chip cookies, and apple pie remains a family legend and was always made with the same care she poured into everything she did.

In addition to her parents, Noni was preceded in death by her loving husband of over 60 years, Arch “Rudy” Rudolph Hester and daughter, Cheryl “Sherri” Ann Redd.

Her memory will forever be treasured by her son, Michael James Hester (Beth) of Summerville; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; as well as a host of several beloved extended family members and friends.

At the family’s request, all services held will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests memorial donations be given in memory of Floy “Noni” Hester to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105.
