Gabriel Nathaniel Calloway, lovingly known as Gabe, passed away on May 8, 2026, at the age of 19. Born on July 25, 2006, at Taylor Regional Hospital, Gabe entered this world in a way that already hinted at the joyful spirit he would become — wrapped completely in his umbilical cord, a true “goofball God had given us,” as his family lovingly recalled.

Gabe was the cherished son who completed his family of four. Though quiet at first, once he knew you, there was “no turning down the volume.” He grew into an energetic, fun-loving young man whose kindness, compassion, and unmistakable grin could light up any room. With his dimpled smile, silly faces, and contagious laughter, Gabe brought joy to everyone fortunate enough to know him.

As a small child, Gabe endured six hospitalizations in his first two years due to pneumonia caused by a hiatal hernia. Through those difficult days, his family’s faith grew stronger, and with a simple adjustment of raising his bed, the innocent little boy recovered.

From a young age, Gabe showed a servant’s heart. He would stop what he was doing just to sit with his Mama on the deck. He loved attending youth group with his cousins every Wednesday, forming what became a close-knit tribe. Some of his happiest memories were spent at his Papaw’s in Tennessee — fishing in the pond, studying the Bible, and spending time with his brother and family. Gabe was baptized at 12 years old and continued to grow deeply in his faith throughout his life.

As he grew older, Gabe developed a love for hunting, fishing, old cars, tractors, and diesel trucks. He dual-enrolled in a diesel automotive program and graduated from Perry High School and CGTC in 2024, nearly simultaneously. Though capable of graduating early, Gabe chose to remain in high school to stay committed to his plans. He talked often about joining the Army, proudly loved the American flag, and devoted himself daily to God’s Word.

Gabe’s greatest gift was simply loving people. He wanted to be with others, encourage them, and make them feel valued. Every morning around 5:30 a.m., he could be found reading his Bible. He loved mechanic videos, sweet tea — thanks to Uncle Si — and listening to the Robertson family podcast. He deeply admired Charlie Kirk and was heartbroken by his passing. Gabe respected women, checked on his cousins often, and throughout his life, his family never once heard him speak a curse word.

Those who knew Gabe often described him as innocent like a child and truly “the hands and feet of Jesus.” He lived out the words of Romans 12, using the gifts God gave him to serve others in deeply personal ways. Whether lending a hand, listening to someone who needed comfort, or bringing home a Coke or snack simply to brighten a family member’s day, Gabe loved without agenda or expectation. What mattered most to him was never the activity itself — it was the people he shared it with.

On May 4, 2026, Gabe suffered a serious accident while moving a piece of equipment. He fought courageously for a week in the ICU at Atrium Health, surrounded constantly by the prayers, hope, and unwavering love of his family and countless prayer warriors. Though his family prayed fervently for a miracle, the Lord called Gabe home on May 8, 2026. Through this heartbreaking journey, their faith only grew stronger as they leaned into God’s Word and the promise of eternal life through Jesus Christ.

Even in death, Gabe continued serving others. A few years before his passing, he casually announced to his family one evening, “I’m gonna be an organ donor. I won’t need ’em anyway.” After his passing, his family honored that wish. Through organ donation, Gabe gave the gift of life to several people. His family especially prays that whoever receives his heart will also receive his heart for Jesus.

In the days following his passing, Gabe’s family adopted the phrase “Love Like Gabe” — inspired by the initials “LLG” painted on a niece’s fingernails. It became a reminder of the way Gabe lived: loving deeply, serving selflessly, forgiving freely, and pointing others toward Christ.

Gabe’s life was a testimony of simple faith, genuine kindness, and wholehearted love. His family hopes his story encourages others to slow down, pray together, eat together, laugh together, and cherish one another more deeply. As they reflected during the long week spent by his bedside, they realized how precious uninterrupted time together truly is. “Any Monday can seem ordinary… until it isn’t.” Gabe’s story reminds all of us to say “I love you,” hug someone tightly, and live each day with compassion and purpose.

Gabriel Nathaniel Calloway will forever be remembered as a beautiful son, brother, grandson, cousin, and friend — a godly young man whose light continues shining through the countless lives he touched.

Gabe was preceded in death by his grandmother, Wanda Eckhardt.

His memory will forever be treasured by his loving parents, Samuel Aaron and Megan Eckhardt Calloway; brother, Samuel Robert “Bobby” Calloway and grandparents, Samuel Joe Calloway, Jeanette Anne Calloway, and Bob Eckhardt.

There will be a memorial visitation on May 22, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at First Christian Church in Perry, Georgia. A celebration of life service honoring Gabe’s life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests memorial donations be to Gabe’s “Go Fund Me.” The donations will be used to start a scholarship, in the diesel mechanic program, at Central Georgia Technical College, in Gabe’s memory.

McCullough Funeral Home and Crematory has the privilege of being entrusted with these arrangements.
