George Amandus Ahlvin

George Amandus Ahlvin, 96, died Thursday, June 13, 2002. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon, Saturday, June 15, at McCullough Funeral Home. Visitation in Joliet, Illinois, will be from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 18, at Carlson-Holmquist-Sayles Funeral Home. Services will be at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 19, in the Chapel of Carlson-Holmquist-Sayles Funeral Home, Joliet, with interment following in Elmhurst Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Alzheimer's Association, Central Georgia Chapter, 277 Martin Luther King, Jr., Blvd, Suite 201, Macon, GA 31201-3498.

Born in Joliet, IL, Mr. Ahlvin was a partner and carpenter with Ahlvin Brothers for 35 years. He was a veteran of the Army Air Corp and served in WWII. In Joliet, he was a member of Elk Lodge No. 296, Matteson Lodge No. 175, Carpenters Local Union No. 174, VFW, and Moran Club. He also enjoyed fishing, woodworking, and gardening. Mr. Ahlvin was preceded in death by his parents, Amandus and Elvira Ahlvin, brothers, Sven, Albert, and Elmer Ahlvin, and his sister, Eva McGann.

Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Tatroe Ahlvin, formerly of Joliet; son, John (Sandy) Ahlvin, and grandson, John Ahlvin, Jr., all of Byron; and granddaughter, Deborah (Jim) Langston, and great-grandson, Cleveland A. Langston (Cal), all of Hawkinsville.
