Devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Gerald J. “Jerry” Schmanski passed away peacefully on the morning of February 8, 2020. He was 73.
Mr. Schmanski was born on May 23, 1946, in Chicago, Illinois to the late Joseph and Antoinette Panczuk Schmanski. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War with the 1-40 Artillery Unit, and he always looked forward to reuniting with his Army brothers each year. After his military service, he enjoyed a successful career as a licensed real estate agent. Mr. Schmanski loved to spend time at the lake boating and water-skiing, and enjoyed collecting antiques and playing golf as well. A determined man, he desired to live his life as independently as possible all the way to the end. He loved his family above all else and was an inspiration to anyone who met him. A devout Catholic, Mr. Schmanski was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Kathleen, Georgia and also a member of the Knights of Columbus, Fourth Degree. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 45 years, Cathy M. Schmanski, and his sisters, Barbara Cumbo and Phyllis Waldack.
His memory will forever be treasured by his son, Brian Schmanski (Heather) of Bonaire; his grandchildren, Maiya Schmanski and Liam Schmanski; life-long friend, Mike Conley; as well as many loving nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.
A rosary prayer service will be Tuesday, February 11, 2020, at 6:00 p.m. with visitation to follow until 8:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. The funeral service celebrating Mr. Schmanski’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 12, 2020, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Kathleen, Georgia with Father Eric Filmer officiating.
