Gerald J. Barry, 92, entered into rest on Saturday, June 13, 2009.
Mr. Barry was born on June 16, 1916 in Screven County, Georgia. He was a World War II veteran who served with pride and honor in the United States Navy and whose heroism was recognized in the award of a Purple Heart. He retired from Chevron Oil Company as Superintendent of Construction for the Southeastern Region. A devoted husband and father, he was also a member and past president of the Homing Pigeon Club and an avid golfer. He was predeceased by his wife of fifty-six years, Frances Barry Wilson, and parents, Perciful Marion Barry and Argene Duncan Barry.
He will forever live in the hearts of his son, Dr. Donald Barry, Ithaca, New York; daughter, Susan Dettweiler (David), Warner Robins; and grandsons, Benjamin and Luke Dettweiler.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 16, 2009, at Milner Baptist Church Cemetery, Milner, Georgia. Memorial donations may be made to the Atlanta Humane Society, 981 Howell Mill Road NW, Atlanta GA 30318 or www.atlantahumane.org
