Gerald Ray Horne

October 8, 1936 — January 4, 2014

Gerald Ray Horne "the Living Legend" of Northside High School, 77, went home to be with his Lord on January 4, 2014. He was a life-long devoted educator who dedicated his life to teaching and introducing thousands of students to drama and the fine arts. For 50 years, he taught Speech and Drama at Northside High School where every possible dramatic title for one-act regional, state and national recognitions were earned.

Ray was recognized locally and nationally for his dedication to the Fine Arts. He was inducted into the Georgia, Mississippi, Arkansas and International Thespian Halls of Fame. He is a past President of the Georgia Thespian and Georgia Theatre organizations and served on the Board of Directors for the Georgia Thespians.

As an educator, Ray was chosen as Star Teacher twice and inducted into the Houston County Teacher Hall of Fame. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, traveling to see Broadway Shows, listening to music, reading, and keeping in touch with his former students.

Ray, a member of Warner Robins Jaycee's, was chosen "Man of the Year," named Outstanding Citizen by the Warner Robins Realtors Association, Citizen of the Year by Warner Robins City Council, served as President of the Morning Optimist Club and was the Grand Marshall of the Warner Robins Christmas Parade.

Ray was a member of Central Baptist Church where he was a Senior Adult Singles Sunday School Teacher. Ray's early years were spent with the Peace Corp in the Philippines.

His memory will forever be treasured by his beloved sisters, Jean Alligood, Ouida Brown (J.D.), Bobbie Hogg, his twin Faye Mullis and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents Horace and Lydia Horne, brother, Horace "Bud" Horne, sisters Lois Hedden and Nova Fausett.

Visitation will be Friday and Saturday evening, January 10th and 11th from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at McCullough Funeral Home, Houston Lake Road, Warner Robins, GA. Ray Horne will lie in state one hour prior to his funeral service which will be held Sunday January 12, 2014 at 2:00 pm at the Ray Horne Theatre of Performing Arts at Northside High School - Green Street Warner Robins, GA. Entombment will follow at Parkway Memorial Gardens - Carl Vinson Parkway, Warner Robins, GA.

The family and "Caregivers" wish to thank the staff of Heart of Georgia Hospice for providing care and comfort to Ray Horne. In following Ray Horne's wishes, in lieu of flowers, he has requested donations be made to the Ray Horne Scholarship Program and be mailed to H.E.A. Federal Credit Union 121 Osigian Blvd. Warner Robins, GA 31088.
