Grady Cleveland Slay

March 27, 1922 — September 10, 2011

Grady Cleveland Slay, 89, entered into rest on Saturday, September 10, 2011.

Mr. Slay was born on March 27, 1922 in Macon County, Alabama. He was a faithful member of Northview United Methodist Church for fifty one years. With pride and honor, he served his country in the United States Army during WWII from 1942 to 1946 both stateside and in the European Theater being at the Battle of the Bulge and wounded in Germany. Grady also worked at the site that was to be the training field for the Tuskegee Airmen. A Police Officer, he retired from the City of Warner Robins Police Department. A tireless community servant, he was a member of the Woodmen of the World, the Peace Officer's Association of Georgia, the Disabled American Veterans; Tyrian Masonic Lodge #111 and a Scottish Rite Mason. His parents, William P. Slay, Sr., and Carrie Segrest Slay; and brother, W. P. Slay, Jr., all preceded him in death.

His memory will forever be treasured by his beloved wife of sixty three years, Betty Jamie Slay, Warner Robins; son and daughter-in-law, Barry and Virginia Slay, Bonaire; daughter and son-in-law, Sandy and Wendell Faircloth, Warner Robins; siblings, Frances Treadwell, Warren and Alton Slay, all of Alabama; Ruth Ray, Mississippi; three grandchildren, Aryn Slay, Jennifer Bridges, Brad Stone; and four great grandchildren.

Visitation will be Monday evening, September 12, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 13, 2011 in Northview United Methodist Church with the Reverend Kary Shumate officiating. Entombment will follow in Magnolia Park Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests memorial donations to Heart of Georgia Hospice, 103 Westridge Drive, Warner Robins, Georgia 31088.
