Gwen Ida Simmons

Gwen Simmons, 69, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 13, 2016.

Gwen was born on September 22, 1946, in Byron, Georgia to the late Francis C. and Jewel Shehee Simmons. Gwen was a devout Christian of the Baptist faith who loved to study her Bible and spend personal time with God. After retiring from Robins Air Force Base, Gwen loved shopping for antiques, and spending time with her beloved family—especially her grandchildren. She was an avid reader, and was a member of the Friends of the Library. She also faithfully supported the Humane Society and the Defenders of Wildlife of North America.

In addition to her parents, her brother, Donald R. Simmons, preceded her in death.

Her memory will forever be treasured by her two sons, Robert E. Hammond (DeDe) of Irvine, California; and Philip A. Hammond (Laura) of Byron, Georgia; and her two grandchildren, Andrew Hammond and Abbey Hammond, both of Byron.

Visitation will be Monday, January 18, 2016, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 on Tuesday, January 19, 2016, in the Chapel of McCullough Funeral Home. Following the service, Mrs. Simmons will be laid to rest in Perry Memorial Gardens.
