H.A. "Butch" Mccallister

May 13, 1948 — May 27, 2023

H.A. “Butch” McCallister, 75, went home to be with Jesus on Saturday, May 27, 2023.

Butch was born on May 13, 1948, in Macon, Georgia to the late John and Magnolia McCallister. He served in the Army 82nd Airborne Division and as a Chaplain in the Army National Guard. He later went on to become a glass salesman for ACI Distribution. Butch was a very devout man and above all things, he lived to serve the Lord. For many years, he took great pride in playing a Roman Soldier in Macon Evangelistic Passion Play called, ‘He touch Me.’ As a member of First Evangelical Church in Macon, Butch will long be remembered for proudly proclaiming, “I’m Butch and I’m in love with Jesus!” He loved his family, never met a stranger, and was loved by anyone who knew him. His favorite pastimes were fishing with his brother in love, Ken Whitehead, watching classic westerns such as Gunsmoke and The Rifleman, and cheering on the Georgia Bulldogs football team and the Atlanta Braves.

In addition to his parents, Butch was preceded in death by his sisters, Georgia Fetters, and Marie Dombai.

His memory will forever be treasured by his wife of 55 years, Sandra McCallister; children, Misty Winters-Joglar (Ivette) of Warner Robins, and David McCallister (Lisa) of Crawford County; grandson, Ethan Winters; sister, Caroline Woodard (Len) of Macon; along with many other extended family members and friends.

The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff of Southern Pines Nursing Home and Heart of Georgia Hospice for their loving care of Butch.

Visitation will be Tuesday, May 30, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 31, 2023, at Magnolia Park Cemetery, where Butch will be laid to rest.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests memorial donations be given in memory of H.A. “Butch” McCallister to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or Heart of Georgia Hospice at 103 Westridge Drive, Warner Robins, GA 31088.
