Helen Marchant Byrd Smith, 89, entered into rest on Friday, November 22, 2024.
Her parents, Nas Murry and Ida Ellis Marchant, of Tifton, Georgia, preceded her in death, as well as, her former husband, the late Wiley “Jack” Byrd, to whom she was married for 32 years. She then was married to the late Richard Preston Smith for 24 years, who passed away in 2014. Helen’s late paternal grandmother, Sarah Ann Swain Marchant was born and grew up in Houston County (Perry).
She is survived by her daughter, Beth Byrd Coulter (Danny) of Sandersville; son, Robert “Bobby” Byrd (Maria) of Warner Robins; grandson, Richie Coulter (Jordan) of Sandersville; and sister, Merle Marchant Epps, of Baldwin County, Milledgeville.
Helen graduated from Tifton High School in 1953, and resided there until 1959, when the family relocated to Warner Robins for employment.
She retired from Robins Air Force Base in January 1988, with 27 years Civil Service, and worked in the private sector for 27 years.
She was a member of Green Acres Baptist Church, 901 Elberta Road, Warner Robins, Georgia, 31093.
Helen became a Master Gardener in 2009 and enjoyed their friendships and volunteering.
The family will receive friends during a visitation on Monday, November 25, 2024, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at McCullough Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home. Afterward, Helen will be laid to rest in Magnolia Park Cemetery.
The family will accept flowers or donations may be given in memory of Helen Marchant Byrd Smith to Green Acres Baptist Church Building Fund.
