Horace Macauley Ivy, III

Horace Macauley Ivy, III, of Warner Robins, Georgia, passed away on December 7, 2024, at the age of 88. Born on November 14, 1936, in Meridian, Mississippi, to the late Horace and Francis Jackson Ivy, Horace lived a rich, adventurous life that took him all over the country and beyond.

Growing up, Horace's family moved frequently, and he developed a deep appreciation for the diverse places he called home. He graduated from high school in New Orleans and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree from Mississippi State University. His love for learning led him to a career in teaching. Horace taught junior high, in Springfield, Florida, before relocating to Warner Robins, Georgia, in 1966.

In Warner Robins, Horace found a new calling at Robins Air Force Base, where he worked for 30 years in civil service, specializing in contracting, procurement, and quality assurance. His dedication to his work and his colleagues earned him the respect of all who knew him.

Horace was a man of many passions. He and his beloved wife traveled extensively, towing their Airstream camper across the country and beyond. They visited Alaska, Belize, Canada, and many other places, cherishing the experiences and memories they created along the way.

At home, Horace enjoyed tending to his plants, nurturing everything from flowers to vegetables. He also kept chickens and horses, and had a deep love for fishing. He was an exceptional storyteller, able to spin a yarn that would captivate anyone who was lucky enough to listen.

Horace had a special gift with animals, often referred to as a "dog whisperer." His gentle nature and patience made him beloved by all the creatures in his care.

Above all, Horace cherished his family. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, always ready to lend a hand, offer guidance, or share a word of wisdom. He loved teaching his children and grandchildren how to fix things, whether it was bikes, cars, or plants, and imparting life lessons with patience and care.

Known for his generosity, Horace was always willing to share with others, whether through his time, knowledge, or resources. He was a giving soul, and his kindness and willingness to help will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

In addition to his parents, Horace was preceded in death by sons, Lamar Mills and James Mills; a brother, a sister and a grandchild. 

Horace is survived by his loving wife, Mary; children, Deirdra Ivy Selph (Sam) of Byron, Georgia, and Jennifer Ivy Pollard (Jim) of Byron, Georgia; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

A memorial gathering will be held on Monday, December 16, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at the Farmhouse, at McCullough Funeral Home.
