Horace "Joe" Butler, Jr.

May 22, 1945 — October 7, 2025

Bonaire

Horace “Joe” Butler, Jr. was born on May 22, 1945, in Marshallville, Georgia, to the late Horace Butler, Sr. and Beatrice Smith Butler. He grew up in Marshallville and received his education through the Macon County School System.

Joe dedicated more than 30 years of loyal service to Northside Garden Apartments, where he worked as the maintenance technician. Following his retirement, he continued to share his skills and strong work ethic as a maintenance technician at Second Baptist Church. Known for his craftsmanship and attention to detail, Joe took great pride in his work and had a true gift for fixing and repairing things.

A talented painter and skilled handyman, Joe was happiest when working with his hands or helping others. His acts of service were a reflection of his generous spirit — always ready to lend a hand, share a kind word, or offer his time to anyone in need.

Joe also loved spending time with family and friends, especially during lively card games filled with laughter and friendly competition. At home, you could often find him in his favorite chair at the kitchen table, watching Wheel of Fortune or catching up on the news.

Joe’s kindness, humor, and unwavering willingness to help others touched everyone he met. He leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and quiet strength that will be deeply cherished by all who knew him.

In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his children, Lizzie Mae Butler and Joseph Butler; and several siblings.

His legacy will be carried on by his sons, Randy Butler (Tracy) and Horace Butler, III (Diane); god-daughter, Taniqua McDonald; grandchildren, Shandra Butler, K’Nisha Butler-Stroud (Shonna), Crystal Butler, Kameron Taylor, (Miesha), Tijuan Green, Sheena Williams, Randy Butler, Jr. (Christina), Gabriel “Spote” Butler, Sr. (AnTwainese), Tia Butler, Mya Butler, Kheldon Butler, Shannon Jurgensen, and Darleen Kruse; sixteen great-grandchildren; siblings, Lizzie Johnson (James L.), Nora Henton (Johnny) and Thomas Butler; and devoted friends, Rad and Judy Fountain, Margaret Butler, Barbara Bergman, Rosa Lee Butler, Ronnie “Bruh Law” Towns, Malcolm Lynwood, Latasha Anthony, Laverne Roquemore, Retha Davis, Valerie Butler, and Felix M. Brown.
