Howard Fred Barrett, Jr.

Howard Fred Barrett, Jr., age 59, passed away on May 27, 2025. Born in Biloxi, Mississippi, on September 14, 1965, Howard was the beloved son of the late Howard Barrett, Sr. and Laura Carpenter Barrett.

Howard spent his early years as part of an Air Force family, a lifestyle that took him from Mississippi to Warner Robins, Georgia at the age of four, and then to Portsmouth, New Hampshire at age ten. He later returned to Warner Robins as a teenager and attended both Warner Robins High School and Northside High School.

Before graduating, Howard chose to serve his country by enlisting in the U.S. Army, where he spent four years as an E3 mechanic. After his honorable service, he began working as a restaurant equipment delivery driver until a job-related injury at age 30 left him disabled.

In 1993, Howard married in Summerville, South Carolina. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and compassion. Howard had a deep affection for animals and was especially devoted to his four cats, whom he treated like family.

A quiet, intelligent, and humorous man, Howard had a natural curiosity and talent for fixing things—from classic cars to computers. He was a gifted cook and grill master, known for bringing people together around a meal. Whether he was fishing, helping a friend in need, or enjoying music in the outdoors, Howard lived with generosity and heart. He had an unwavering willingness to lend a hand, and it was often said that he would give you the shirt off his back.

Howard loved children and was a deeply cherished uncle. His presence was a steady, comforting one—quiet, but full of warmth. He will be remembered not only for his skills and kindness but for the joy he brought to the lives he touched.

In addition to his parents, Howard was preceded in death by his sister, Michelle Owen, and nephew, Matthew Durden.

His memory will forever be treasured by his wife, Rachel Barrett; children, Walter Barrett and Jade Barrett; siblings, Teresa Casey and Tammy Barrett; nieces and nephews, Lee Almeidi, Rebecca Casey Peace, Arley Peace, Brandie Smith (Charles Stanley), Jennifer Laffom (Lance), and Angela Smith (Kyle); and great nieces and nephews, Trever Turner, Kalon Laffoon, Marley Laffoon, Kai Durden, David Smith, and Stephanie Smith.

At the family’s request, all services will be private.
